About place:
At that time, the town was well developed, both in terms of infrastructure and equipment. Around
1,300 people lived there, and there was a large coal industry. I left Qullissat in 1961, when I was
eight years old. The population began to decline, and in 1972 Qullissat was closed. Around
1950, there was a tsunami, but it did not have major consequences for the town. Many houses
were destroyed after a tsunami in the 1990s. Later, an association was formed, and in 1987
efforts began to renovate many of the houses. There is still hope for development in the future.
