About event:
Aust - Agder Museums-og Arkivlag (AAMAL) invites you to a lecture.
The temperance movement was strong for a period in Arendal and the surrounding area, but at the same time there has always been a widespread drinking culture in the district, both among the upper class and the general public. Historian Gunnar Molden will discuss the development and tug-of-war in this field, from the early 18th century, when many sailors and "beach sitters" were engaged in home production of beer and spirits, to the current situation where "everyone" says yes to a glass of red wine. He will particularly emphasize the "battle over alcohol" in the 19th-20th centuries.
Gunnar Molden, historian, lives on Tromøy. He has been employed at the Aust-Agder-Archive and Næs Jernverksmuseum.
Admission: The lecture is FREE for members of AAMAL. For non-members 100 NOK. Tickets are purchased at the entrance. Read about AAMAL membership benefits here: https://www.kubenarendal.no/om-oss/aust-agder-museums-og-arkivlag/bli-medlem!/
