A ROCK MUSICAL INSPIRED BY PUCCINI'S LA BOHÈME Arendal Musikkteater invites the audience into Jonathan Larson's award-winning musical RENT – a powerful and moving story about love, friendship and the hope we find in each other. Set in New York in the late 1980s, we meet a group of young artists and friends living on the edge of society, but close to each other. They fight for their dreams, for love and for the right to be themselves in a time marked by economic challenges, exclusion and the AIDS epidemic. In the midst of uncertainty, stories of community, loyalty and courage arise – and about finding meaning in life just as it is. When Jonathan Larson created RENT, he wanted to tell stories that rarely found a place on the big stages. Inspired by Puccini's La Bohème, he gave voice to people who love, doubt, dream and fight – people who refuse to let fear or adversity define who they are. The result was a musical that has touched audiences worldwide since its premiere and has become one of musical theatre's most significant works. The music is vibrant, the emotions strong and the characters alive. From powerful ensemble scenes to intimate and vulnerable moments, RENT balances the raw and the warm in a way that is still experienced as both current and deeply human.
