In Bratteklev you can walk through maritime history from the 1870s at a virtually complete and untouched old shipyard. Here there are still material traces and memories from an important part of the history of Southern Norway and the maritime cultural heritage of Arendal. Bratteklev is a classic example of a shipyard from the golden age of sailing ships in the latter half of the 19th century. A shipping company was run from the farmhouse, while sailing ships were built on the bed next door. The ships transported goods all over the world, from Australia in the south to Newfoundland in the north.
