Hosted by Apotekergaarden
About event:
“One swallow makes no summer,” wrote Aristotle 2,400 years ago. The same is true of happiness, he believed: One day or a short time is not enough to make anyone happy. Today, many people think of happiness as a fleeting feeling, but perhaps happiness depends on how a life develops over time? In the lecture, Vinje discusses how the ancient Greeks can give us new perspectives on happiness.
Hilde Vinje is an associate professor of philosophy at the University of Agder. She has a doctorate from the University of Oslo, where she researched Aristotle’s thoughts on time and happiness, and is the author of the book “One swallow makes no summer” (Res Publica, 2022).
